Information technology is one of the leading areas of economic development in both the developed and the developing world. There is a significant demand for professionals in this field in the labor market, and especially for those who have both IT and economics backgrounds.

The goal of the course is to train economics information technology experts who are able to understand and solve problems in information processes in real business scenarios all while having a grasp of the standards and values of the information society. They must thus have mastered economics knowledge as applied to today’s business environment and the information technology knowledge necessary for carrying out business activities. After completing the degree program these experts will be able to manage information technology tasks that support value-establishing processes and to use the contemporary opportunities of information technology to expand organizational knowledge bases and business intelligence. These can effectively contribute to the better functioning of organizations.

Economics information technology specialists have requisite knowledge and skills that make them able to analyze and solve information technology issues related to business activities and to choose, operate and guarantee quality regarding information technology solutions that are necessary and best suited to businesses. Beyond providing directly applicable knowledge, the course also concentrates on teaching far-reaching knowledge in the two related expert fields. Hence, after completing the degree program the graduates will have theoretical knowledge deep enough to be able to continue their studies at the Master’s level.

Graduates of the Bachelor degree program in economic information technology will be able to:

• utilize knowledge and skills in economics and information technology fields;
• provide solutions to business problems with information technology support;
• responsibly execute tasks related to their fields of expertise;
• expand their knowledge and improve their performance in their fields of expertise;
• continuously learn and expand their skill sets with new knowledge and competencies;
• use their communication skills and negotiation-level knowledge of foreign languages to cooperate with partners, economics experts and information technology developers.

Graduates of the Bachelor degree program will be competent in:

• understanding, analyzing and executing software solutions and design work to assist business processes, and to execute standard programming tasks;
• utilizing and developing network development principles and methods (business modeling and/or computer-supported development tools);
• designing data bases and establishing and managing tasks related to them;
• adapting economic applications, and initiating, executing and cooperating in introducing organizational changes necessary to the utilization of IT applications;
• cooperating with business and IT experts, utilizing the most effective IT solutions to economic problems, providing information technology support and/or initiating and executing developments;
• managing organizational information technology units, handling operational risks, planning and managing minor development and operational projects, cooperating in information technology task outsourcing solutions and auditing;
• utilizing economic applications, providing user services (identifying and satisfying operational, management-level and upper management information technology needs in terms of business management and decision-support systems use, client-server architecture and other network environment data and system mobilization tasks).
